Statement on Federal Court Injunction of Dallas Employment Ordinance

1000 523 ASSET – Alliance for Securing and Strengthening the Economy in Texas

AUSTIN—The Alliance for Securing and Strengthening the Economy in Texas (ASSET) today released the following statement regarding an injunction by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas of the city of Dallas’ paid sick leave ordinance, which was set to begin enforcement on April 1:

“Employers are committed to the wellbeing of their employees, whether that’s implementing policies to protect employee health and safety, providing benefits or working to ensure they can make payroll so employees can take care of themselves and their families,” ASSET Spokeswoman Annie Spilman said. “As we have said from the beginning, it is simply not within any individual city’s jurisdiction to mandate employment ordinances, and one-size-fits-all policies simply don’t work for small employers working with razor-thin margins. A patchwork of these regulations across Texas does nothing but create uncertainty in our economy—the last thing employees, employers and job seekers need in the wake of this unprecedented national crisis.”
